It’s no secret that crossover sales in the United States are booming, and Audi’s been keen to get in on the action. While a new crossover based on the modern underpinnings of the Audi A3 sedan and hatchback is coming, the Q3 was brought over from overseas as a stop-gap measure.
Designed to be an entry-level model to the brand, the 2017 Audi Q3 lineup is pretty limited considering the vast breadth of the automaker’s entire lineup. All Q3s are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 that makes 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a six-speed automatic gearbox to either the front wheels on the base Q3 Premium, or through an all-wheel drive system in the Q3 Premium Plus and Q3 Prestige. Despite there being both front- and all-wheel drive available, all Audi Q3s are EPA-rated at 20/28/23 mpg city/highway/combined.
Though accommodations are tight inside, the 2017 Q3 sports a nice interior for the price, with leather and metal trim. The rear seats split-fold 60/40, though they don’t fold entirely flat. Audi’s MMI infotainment system is standard, though you’ll want to opt for the Technology package to take full advantage of all of MMI’s advanced features.
