Honda has added a new engine option to the fifth-gen CR-V. Although the 2.4-liter direct-injected engine is standard in the 2017 CR-V LX, the EX and higher trims get a 1.5-liter direct-injected turbo-four making 190 hp. A similar version of that engine is rated 174-180 hp and 162-177 lb-ft of torque in the 2017 Honda Civic hatchback. Both engines are mated to a CVT and, as you’d expect, front-drive is standard and all-wheel-drive is available. Official EPA ratings haven’t been revealed, but Honda claims the turbo engine will have the highest fuel economy ratings in the segment.
The new chassis features a MacPherson Strut suspension upfront and a multi-link suspension in rear with stabilizer bars at both axles. Steering duties are handled by the automaker’s variable Electric Power Steering (EPS).
