The 2017 Toyota Corolla brings its long-running reputation for reliability to the competitive compact car segment. In addition to the sedan, the Corolla lineup now features a hatchback, which migrated from the now defunct Scion brand. The Corolla sedan is powered by a 1.8-liter, I-4 engine rated at 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. Depending on trim level, the engine is mated to a four-speed automatic, a CVT, or a six-speed manual gearbox. Trim levels include L, LE, S, XSE, and the LE Eco, which features a revised engine for improved fuel economy. EPA figures for the 2017 Corolla are still forthcoming, but a 2016 Toyota Corolla with the CVT, for example, is EPA-rated at 29/37-38 mpg city/highway, while the Corolla LE Eco with a slightly updated engine is rated at 30/40-42 mpg city/highway.
